Sri Lanka’s cricketer Angelo Mathews will not be available for the upcoming T20 matches which will be played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In his absence, left handed batsman Upul Tharanga will lead the team in these series of matches to be played soon.
Sri Lanka’s cricket manager – Asanka Gurusinha told media about the absence of Angelo Mathews for the Twenty-20 matches to be played against Bangladesh. During Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa in January, Mathews hurt his hamstring and couldn’t play the short T20 series in Australia.
After a long-term medical treatment, the cricketer was expected to make his comeback in the team for the matches against Bangladesh. But the higher authorities have now confirmed that Mathews won’t be playing any of the match in this series.
While talking to media over missing some matches after the injury, Mathews expressed his sorrow for not being able to be the part of those series. He further added that he will also not be playing in the tenth edition of Indian Premier League.
His coach told reporters that he is now focusing on the proper recovery and is eyeing to make his comeback into the team for the Champions Trophy, which is about to be held in June this year. Due to the injury, Angelo has already missed the Test and ODI series against Bangladesh.
