New Zealand opener Martin Guptill will captain Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2016 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. Dinesh Ramdin was the former skipper of this team who is replaced with this new player who’s best known for his stormy batting skill.
Martin, who was the part of Guyana franchise in 2013 and 2014, following year moved to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for the next season. In the 2016 CPL player draft, Warriors once again selected him for USD $130,000, becoming one of the six designated pavilion players in the tournament. Overall, Guptill has scored 821 runs from 28 CPL matches at the average of 35.69.
Guptill said that it was a huge thrill and great honor for him and now he’s really excited about working with a talented herd of egressing indigenous and international smartness. He further assured that he will be working hard to try and be consistent to maintain the performance and thus accroach the title which missed by the Warriors on two occasions.
Warriors had succeeded in reaching the final of the tournament in 2013 and 2014, but lost on both occasions, to Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Tridents. Guptill, who is lying third in the rank of ICC’s T20 batting list, will be mated by Sohail Tanvir, Dwayne Smith, Chris Lynn and Adam Zampa in Warriors’ squad.
