After winning the toss Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma elected to bowl first. The skipper might had thought of repeating the same pattern of strategy which he had implemented in the previous match, which was played against Gujarat Lions at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on 16th April 2017. While batting in the second inning, Mumbai’s team had successfully chased the target of 177 runs and won the game by 6 wickets.
While batting first, KXIP had an energetic start as the opener batsmen Hashim Amla and Shaun Marsh kicked off playing big shots. Marsh lost his wicket after scoring 26 runs. Next batsman Wriddhiman Saha couldn’t play big inning and lost his wicket after scoring 11 runs. Skipper Glenn Maxwell stormed 40 runs in 18 balls. The right handed batsman hit 4 fours and 3 sixes.
At the other end of strike, Hashim Amla stood firmly with hitting varieties of shots in his batting inning. The right handed south African batsman scored century in this match. He made 104 runs in 60 balls and remained not out till the last ball of KXIP’s batting inning. Amla hit 8 fours and 6 sixes while batting.
Mumbai’s bowlers didn’t manage to stop the aggression of Amla. The renowned fastest bowler – Lasith Malinga was expected to play crucial role in grabbing wickets of the antagonist team. But the Sri Lankar pacer failed to pick up wickets. He bowled 4 overs and 58 runs were scored by KXIP in those four overs. The team ended up scoring 198 runs. Mumbai Indians needs to score 199 runs in 20 overs so as to win the game.
