Showcasing consistency in the ongoing IPL 2017 tournament, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 5 wickets in the 38th match. Team MI succeeded in winning the game which was played on 1st May at Wankhede stadium located in Mumbai. With the victory in this match, Mumbai’s team has once again achieved first position in IPL 2017 points table.
After winning the toss, Royal Challengers Bangalore opted to bat first. The team had a decent start as its opener batsmen Virat Kohli and Mandeep Singh lost their wickets in the early stage of the match. Kohli scored 20 runs 14 balls while Singh made 17 runs in 13 balls. Travis Head batted next after the dismissal of Mandeep and scored 12 run sin 15 balls.
AB de Villiers stepped in as a next batsman when Kohli lost his wicket. The south African right handed batsman hit 43 runs in 23 balls. AB de Villiers hit 3 fours and 3 sixes to score those runs. Wicket-keeper-batsman Kedar Jadhav made 23 runs in 22 balls. Pawan Negi, who batted after Jadhav, hit 35 runs in 23 balls. Negi hit 3 sixes to score the runs.
Team RCB scored 162 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 8 wickets. While chasing this target, Mumbai Indians too commenced its batting inning with a poor beginning. Opener batsman Parthiv Patel lost his wicket on the very first ball. Next batsman Jos Buttler and Nitish Rana played crucial role in forming a strong base for the team’s total score. Rana scored 27 runs and Buttler hit 33 runs.
Skipper Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role in this match. The team’s captain hit 6 fours and 1 six to score 56 runs in 37 balls. Kieron Pollard made 17 runs in 13 balls. After his wicket, Krunal Pandya and Kam Sharma couldn’t play well to score runs for the team. Hardik Pandya was the man who accompanied Rohit Sharma till the last moment of the game.
Rohit remained not out till the end of the match. By hitting a four on the fifth ball of last over, Sharma gave finishing touch to the game and achieved victory in stylish way. RCB has been a poor performer team throughout this season of Indian Premier League. It will not qualify for qualifiers matches as the team has earned only 5 points and secures 8th rank in IPL 2017 points table.
