BCCI has announced that there will be a mini Indian Premier League held from this year which will also be recognized as ‘IPL overseas’. Board of Cricket Control in India has taken this decision to replace the illustrious Champions League (which got shelved last year) with this new commencement.
Anurag Thakur, BCCI president told media that the board is planning to organize this tournament probably in USA and all the eight teams which had their participation in the ninth season of IPL will be confronting in this overseas competition.
Another option for venue to organize this contention was UAE (United Arab Emirates), but more preference is being given to USA. IPL governing council meeting and the working committee meeting indulged into a prolonged discussion over this topic and made the conclusion.
This shortened form of Indian Premier League will last for three weeks. All eight squads, including the two new teams which debuted the well known cricket battle this year, will be taking part in this league. The abated format of tournament is slated to begin in September 2016.
Thakur further added in his interaction with the media persons that the idea of hosting this league in various countries was in the mind of board since last year, but because of some unknown reason, the implementation was made to shift ahead and this is the time when public will enjoy this cricket war.
The proposal to conduct the abridged form of cricket league is likely to come up for acquiescence at the BCCI’s working committee meeting to be held in Dharmasala on Friday. The schedule of this mini IPL will be annunciated soon after the confirmation of venues and countries to host the same.
