Third test match played between New Zealand (NZ) and South Africa (SA) ended up with no results. The match, which began on 24th March, drawn on 29th March. Both the teams showcased excellent performance throughout all five days of this game and competed hard to win the game. But the match drawn on fifth day.
South African team won the toss and opted to bat first. Opener batsmen Theunis de Bruyn and Dean Elgar failed to give a good start to their inning. After they lost their wickets in earlier stage of the game, Hashim Amla (50 runs) and JP Duminy (20 runs) tried to build a strong base for the team’s score.
Captain Faf du Plessis played an important inning and scored 53 runs to accrue team’s total score. Wicket keeper Quinton de Kock’s 90 runs offered a pace to the overall score and Kagiso Rabada’s 34 runs gave a finishing touch their inning. South African team set up a score of 314 runs in 89.2 overs.
New Zealand’s batting inning commenced with a good start. Opener batsmen Jeet Raval (88 runs) and Tom Latham (50 runs) kicked off their inning with triple digit score partnership. After they lost their wickets, skipper Kane Williamson played a vital inning of 176 runs to hike the team’s score. Mitchell Santner (41 runs) and Colin de Grandhomme (57 runs) also played pivotal role in setting up a big score for the team.
With the little individual scores added by the rest of batsmen, Kiwis scored 489 runs in 162.1 overs. In second batting inning of South Africa, no batsman succeeded in scoring satisfactory individual runs and lost five wickets at regular intervals of time. At the end of fifth day, the score was 80 runs. Team SA scored these runs in 39 overs. With the end of this match, South African team won the series of three Test matches against New Zealand by 1-0 lead.
