Performing well in the 31st match of ongoing Indian Premier League 2017’s tournament, Gujarat Lions (GL) defeated powerful Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and won the game by 7 wickets. Batting first, RCB scored 134 runs in 20 overs. Gujarat’s team successfully chased the target and scored 135 runs to win the match. With this match, Gujarat Lions has jumped to sixth position in IPL 2017 points table.
After winning the toss, Suresh Raina led GL team opted to bowl first. The decision to bowl first in the first inning seemed quite well when the wickets of strong batsmen Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle were picked up on consecutive balls in 4th over. After the dismissal of these powerful hitters in the early stage of the match, AB de Villiers and Travis Head came to bat next. They too failed to score maximum runs.
Wicket-keeper-batsman Kedar Jadhav and Pawan Negi contributed majorly in setting up a good score for the team. Kedar hit 31 runs in 18 balls while Negi scored 32 runs in 19 balls. After Kedar and Negi lost their wickets, lower order batsman Aniket Choudhary scored 15 runs in 12 balls. Rest all players failed to score double digit individual runs in the first inning of the match. However, the team set up an average score of 134 runs in 20 overs with the loss of ten wickets.
While chasing the target of 135 runs, Gujarat Lions had a stuttering start to its batting inning. Opener batsmen Ishan Kishan and Brendon McCullum lost their wickets in the early stage of the match. Ishan scored 16 runs in 11 balls while McCullum made 3 runs in 6 balls. Skipper Suresh Raina and right handed batsman Aron Finch played crucial innings to hike the overall score of their team. Finch hit 5 fours and 6 sixes to score 72 runs in 34 balls while Raina made 34 runs in 30 balls. Thus, GL scored 135 runs in 13.5 overs and won the game by 7 wickets.
